Manufacturing advances bring carbon fiber closer to mass production [cardvd-player.net]

Automakers have the use of carbon fiber in mass production for decades dreamed. But soaring commodity prices and production times painfully slow cycles meant that dream was always more like a fantasy. No more. Recent advances mean that the carbon fiber could play an early role in the automotive industry.
Carbon is used in race cars, exotic sports cars and auto parts aftermarket for years. But now I think the car manufacturers have their way, as it is called in the appropriate mass production, especially in the second half of this decade.
No single breakthrough, but a combination of improvements that make it possible. And just in time for automakers to reach the difficult task of increasing their average fuel economy to 54.5 miles per gallon face.
