NHTSA investigating side airbag problems [cardvd-player.net]

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a range of vehicles for potentially defective airbags, according to The Detroit News. Air bags can with a mixture ineffective inflation, which could leave the shallow pockets in the event of a collision may have been manufactured. Defective hardware has found its way into models of Toyota, Honda, Subaru and Nissan, and has resulted in the withdrawal of about 2,700 units so far. If NHTSA finds defective airbags in other vehicles, this number could increase significantly.

The air bag inflators were produced by a defective Swedish supplier Autoliv. According to the report, sent a total of 10,500 Autoliv defective gas generators manufacturer and two other officials of the airbag. Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Kia and Suzuki have broken parts, although it is unclear exactly which models were equipped with parts Autoliv.

Ford, GM and Chrysler have said their air bag inflators work differently than that used by other car manufacturers. The companies have not seen extensive testing error. Autoliv, meanwhile, said the company saw the problem occurs when testing at -22 degrees Celsius, but the disorder can occur more at low temperatures.
