Hyundai under threat of strike in Korea [www.cardvd-player.net]

Hyundai is facing a strike in Korea. Workers lead by Moon Yong, the head from the company’s brotherhood, are threatening to take action unless they receive better pay and reduced working hours. Earlier soon, 70-percent on the 45,000-member union voted to give leaders the facility to enact walkouts. Hyundai is already comfortable with the harm that strikes are able to do – the organization reportedly estimates labor disruptions between 1987 and 2008 cost it sales close to 1 million units worth approximately $10 billion. It’s been four years since unions staged a strike against Hyundai, and analysts attribute high of the automaker’s forward momentum to this particular period of relative calm.
Meanwhile, workers at sister company Kia have voted to pursue a strike besides. Which means both companies might find an eight-hour stoppage on Friday, July 12.
Organized labor for both manufacturers want a monthly pay increase of $132. In addition they need to see 30-percent of total company net profit be returned to employees by means of bonuses. The workers can also be pushing for plants to advance to two eight-hour shifts instead of the double 12-hour schedule. Wage discussions began in May but recently deteriorated, ultimately causing the strike vote.
